Lockheed Martin Exoskeleton Helps Soldiers Carry Heavy Equipment

Lockheed Martin has a new exoskeleton to make life easier for soldiers. The FORTIS Knee Stress Release Device is a computer-controlled exoskeleton that reduces stress on the lower back and legs, allowing users to carry heavy loads. It boosts leg capacity for repetitive or continuous movements.

FORTIS K-SRD has batteries approved for infantry use. It has sensors to report the soldier’s speed, direction and angle of the movement. An on-board computer drives electro-mechanical actuators at the knees. More info is available here.
