Impacto: Wearable Lets You Feel Virtual Punches


Virtual reality systems are going to become a lot more sophisticated in the future. There are already plenty of exciting VR products that provide you with an immersive gaming experience. Impacto, a project by Pedro Lopes, Alexandra Ion and Patrick Baudisch at the Hasso Plattner Institute, lets you feel punches in a virtual environment.

As the above video explains, a solenoid is used for the tactile component while the impulse component is pulled off using electrical muscle stimulation.  You can play a wide variety of sports with a wearable system like this. More information is available here.
