Here is a smart patch that can be used to monitor biochemical and electrical signals in the human body. The Chem-Phys patch records EKG signals and tracks levels of lactate. Just wear it on the chest, and you will be able to capture and analyze data on your smartphone. Such a solution can be used to monitor athletes’ performance and monitor patients with serious diseases.

Researchers used screen printing to manufacture the patch on a thin, flexible polyester sheet that can be applied directly to the skin. An electrode to sense lactate was printed in the center of the patch, with two EKG electrodes bracketing it to the left and the right.
