This Smart Exoskeleton Keeps Seniors from Falling

Here is a smart exoskeleton that can detect loss of balance by its user to prevent falls. Developed by researchers at Scuola Sant’Anna in Italy, EPFL in Switzerland, this lightweight wearable exoskeleton counteracts the loss of balance. It can be adapted to any given patient in a few minutes.

When loss of balance is detected, the device uses motors to push both the thighs down and reestablish stability at the hip.
