We have known for a few years that multiple companies are interested in developing smart lenses for health and other fields. Scientists from UniSA’s Future Industries Institute have completed research on a polymer thin-film coating that conducts electricity on a contact lens. The idea here is to develop electrical circuits that are safe to wear.

Since the fluids in the eye can give an indication of a person’s health, a smart lens with electrical sensors can be used to monitor lens wearers’ health. The next step is to develop additional technologies to read the data transmitted by these conductive polymers.
